PasswordProvider

You must be looking for a good password manager for Windows 7 since there is no such build-in tool. I have been using Secure Password Storage for a few weeks, but the functionality is limited, the choices too are limited, and the app as a whole is sometimes quite slow and buggy.

Today, I stumbled on Password Provider, a secure desktop password manager with tons of functionalities packed into a simple-to-use app. You can create, store, and access unlimited number of logon/passwords and other important information.

Taskbar Texturizer – Add Texture To Windows 7 Taskbar

Today we came across a tool which allows you to texturize the Windows 7 taskbar. Taskbar Texturizer is a light-weight tool which offer 10+ textures but there is a small interesting story behind it.

An independent developer(named Brad) got frustrated because StartDock added the exact same feature in Windows Blinds 7 and was toting it as a “Major Feature”. But Brad actually coded it in 2002, so he quickly recompiled it, added the tray support, and released it for the public.

Please note that this tool only texturizes the taskbar of your system, it does not texturize the start menu but according to the developer, he will soon include start menu texturization as well.

Is Outlook 2010 Slow? Download Email Header Only

Running Outlook 2010 offline can be useful if you want to perform any task other than email. But what if you have 100 emails and it is taking forever to download them? By default Outlook 2010 downloads both the emails and the attachments and does not ask the user about this setting when setting up an account for the first time.

In Outlook 2007 you could hit Ctrl+Alt+S to open your Outlook Send and Receive Groups, but this is not the case in Outlook 2010. You first need to head over to the Send/Receive tab and Go to Send/Receive Groups -> Define Send/Receive Groups as shown in the screenshot .

When I wrote a post on reading books in ePub format, I forgot the most important cross-platform eBook reader, manager, and converter out there, Calibre. It can import books, documents, comics, and newspapers in various formats, including, .epub, .lrf, .pdf, .mobi, .cbz, .cbr, .cbc, , .lit, .zip, and .rar formats.

So what does Calibre actually do? There are five main features, converter, viewer, news fetcher, send to device, and save to disk. Each one of them have various sub-features.

When you run the app for the first time, select the type of device you own. It has options for Amazon Kindle, iPhone, Android, Sony Readers, and various other ebook readers.

Once you are in, hit the Add Books button and start organizing your books, documents, news, comics, etc. If you have hundreds of books, there is an option to search them(advanced search is also included).

Outlook 2010: PST File Repair Tool

Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 is quite stable but not perfect, if your PST file becomes corrupt then you will need a repair tool to fix it. PST stands for Personal Storage Table(also referred as Personal Folder File) and is used to store all your Inbox, and other information. If it becomes corrupt, then your Inbox will also get corrupted.

If Outlook 2010 is crashing, you could try running in Safe Mode and determine what is causing the problem. If you can’t find a problem, then there is a high chance it could be due to corrupt PST file. So how do we fix it? There are two methods, either use an official tool or a 3rd party tool.

Write your Google App Engine applications in Groovy

Posted by admin | Posted in Java, Web Development | Posted on 18-11-2009 | Views: 98

Google just announced that their Google App Engine cloud hosting platform now supports other languages than Python: namely Java and Groovy!

You can now effectively write your Google App Engine applications in Groovy!

A couple of weeks ago, the SpringSource Groovy team and the Google App Engine Java team worked together, hand in hand, to iron out the details, to ensure that the popular and award-winning Groovy dynamic language for the JVM would run well on this exciting platform. After having created together some patches for Groovy, in the area of constrained and strict security manager policies, the Groovy development team integrated these patches and released the updated Groovy 1.6.1 version in line for the D-Day. With this new release, you can directly use the “groovy-all” JAR in your WEB-INF/lib directory and get started writing your applications in Groovy, right away, and host them on Google’s infrastructure.

In the rest of this article, I’ll walk you through some easy steps to let you build your first Groovy powered App Engine webapp. I’ll skip the basic installation steps, as they are outlined and explained very well in the App Engine documentation, and I’ll focus more on the aspects of building the Groovy application per se. As you shall see, this is fairly easy.

Ten Simple Rules for Choosing the Perfect CMS + Excellent Options

Posted by admin | Posted in Main | Posted on 18-11-2009 | Views: 91

The content management system you choose can really make a huge difference in how much time you (or your clients) spend keeping a site updated and maintained. There’s a huge variety out there—some estimates put the number at around 1700 different options. Some are great…some, not so much.

Below are ten useful guidelines to consider when choosing a CMS, followed by rundowns on ten great CMS options available and how they stack up based on the guidelines.

Ten Simple Guidelines for Choosing the Perfect CMS

1. The CMS you choose should be really good at whatever the main function of your website is.

What do you want your website to do? Is it going to be primarily a static website, like an online brochure? Or is it going to be a fully-functioning ecommerce site? Or maybe it’s going to be really media-heavy with tons of videos, photos, and audio files. Or is a blog going to be the primary focus?

Whatever your site’s primary function is going to be, you need to define it and then find a CMS that does that particular thing really, really well. If blogging is the main focus of the site, then use a blog platform. If images and video are the main focus, then you need to find a CMS that either has great support for media built-in or has great plugins for enabling those functions. If your site is going to focus on an online store, then the platform you choose needs to be able to seamlessly integrate that online store without a ton of extra work.

AJAX online Examples

There are a few special techniques or effects that can spice up just about any web page. These are the top 20 Ajax effects that every web developer should know. They’re essential parts of any web developer’s toolbox. If you haven’t seen them yet, you no doubt will in your future web development endeavors.

1. TextboxList meets Autocompletion

Auto-completing fields in a form can be a huge time saver and a major benefit to the user. For example, searching for email addresses is a chore that can easily made much more simple (and I dare say fun) with a splash of Ajax. TextboxList meets Autocompletion is one such example of an auto-complete script that takes a Facebook-esque approach to autocompletion. The implementation is crisp and useful, not to mention easy on the eyes.

Discussing PHP Frameworks: What, When, Why and Which?

Posted by admin | Posted in PHP | Posted on 18-11-2009 | Views: 89

What is a PHP Framework?

PHP is the world’s most popular scripting language for many different reasons – flexibility, ease-of-use, among others – but often times coding in PHP, or any language for that matter, can get rather monotonous and repetitive. That’s where a PHP framework can help.

PHP frameworks streamline the the development of web applications written in PHP by providing a basic structure for which to build the web applications. In other words, PHP frameworks help to promote rapid application development (RAD), which saves you time, helps build more stable applications, and reduces the amount of repetitive coding for developers. Frameworks can also help beginners to build more stable apps by ensuring proper database interaction and coding on the presentation layer. This allows you to spend more time creating the actual web application, instead of spending time writing repetitive code.

The general idea behind the workings of a PHP framework is referred to as Model View Controller (MVC). MVC is an architectural pattern in programming that isolates business logic from the UI, allowing one to be modified separately from the other (also known as separation of concerns). With MVC, Model refers to data, View refers to the presentation layer, and Controller to the application or business logic. Basically, MVC breaks up the development process of an application, so you can work on individual elements while others are unaffected. Essentially, this makes coding in PHP faster and less complicated.

jQuery Sliders

1) Slider Gallery- A similar effect used to showcase the products on the Apple web site. This ‘product slider’ is similar to a straight forward gallery, except that there is a slider to navigate the items, i.e. the bit the user controls to view the items. Simple stuff.
